Terms
Terms of use
These terms govern your use of Severance Ledger. By reading and using the site, you agree to them. They exist mainly to make one thing unmistakable: this is journalism and reference material, not advice for your specific situation.
Last updated: June 13, 2026
Informational only — not professional advice
Severance Ledger is published for informational and educational purposes. Nothing on this site is legal, tax, financial, or investment advice, and nothing here is a substitute for advice from a professional licensed in your jurisdiction. Reading our articles, emailing us, or using any tool we link to does not create an attorney-client, accountant-client, advisor-client, or any other professional relationship.
Severance and employment matters turn on the specific facts of your employer's policy, your agreement, your tenure, and your state's law. Before you act on anything you read here — especially before signing a severance agreement, missing a deadline, or making a tax or financial decision — consult a licensed attorney, CPA, or financial professional in your state.
No warranty; no guarantee of accuracy
We work hard to be accurate and to cite primary sources, and we correct errors openly (see our corrections policy). Even so, the site is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, completeness, or non-infringement. Laws, tax rates, and company practices change, and despite our refreshes some content may be out of date or incomplete at the moment you read it. Any figures and ranges we publish are general illustrations, not predictions about your case.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Severance Ledger, its publisher, and anyone working on it will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from your use of — or reliance on — the site or its content. You use the information here at your own discretion and risk, and you are responsible for verifying anything you intend to rely on with a qualified professional or the cited primary source.
External links and third-party content
Our articles link to primary sources and other third-party websites for your convenience and verification. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for their content, accuracy, or availability. A link is not an endorsement, except where we explicitly say we are recommending our own product (below).
Common ownership with SeveranceCalc.com
Severance Ledger and SeveranceCalc.com are operated by the same publisher. When an article points you to SeveranceCalc's paid severance-assessment tool, we are recommending our own product, and we disclose that rather than presenting it as an independent endorsement. SeveranceCalc is a separate product with its own terms and pricing; using it is optional, and our editorial analysis stands on its cited public sources regardless. We do not accept paid placement, sponsored posts, or affiliate links in our editorial coverage.
Acceptable use and intellectual property
The content on Severance Ledger — text, layout, and design — is owned by the publisher and protected by applicable law. You may read, quote, and link to our articles with attribution for ordinary, non-commercial purposes. You may not scrape, republish in bulk, or commercially redistribute our content without permission, and you may not use the site in any way that is unlawful or that interferes with its operation or other readers' use of it.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of [governing-law jurisdiction to be set by the publisher], without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute relating to the site or these terms will be subject to the courts of that jurisdiction. If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in effect.
Changes and contact
We may update these terms from time to time; the "last updated" date above reflects the current version, and continued use of the site means you accept the updated terms. Questions go to editor@severanceledger.com.
